BACK TO 2011 !
THE CREATION OF LOLIROCK - PART 5
: VILLAINS !
(pictures 1 and 2) Precisely October the 31st of 2011 (Halloween day, no kidding), I started researches for Mephisto and Praxina, the evil duet of the series. As our princess heroins, they came from Ephedia which is a kingdom. with knights. So I wanted them to wear armors and swords, and exuberant make-ups. I wanted them to have white and black hairs, kind of tie-and-dye. As princesses have symbols, Meph n Prax must have symbols, so I proposed “X” and “+” you can see in their eyes. Their magic is also ice/crystal. Their weapons have to be ice/crystal. and I imagined this fusion that would make a crystal guitar. it could send a huge “music wave” to fight the “voice wave” of the princesses. wait, WHAT ? Oh yeah, princesses’ voice power ! get another look at the 1st episode of Lolirock. at this stage of the development, princesses took power from their voices. Writers totally forgot that basis idea of the series after the 1st episode. So the music in the series doesnt make sense anymore. what a waste. clap clap clap.
(pictures 3 and 4) Back to the characters creation. My partner in crime Benedicte Ciaravino drew her vision of Meph n Prax. She imagined them more like night butterflies/moths. “X” in Meph’s eyes became butterfly silhouette (notice that butterfly is still the symbol of Praxina). So, finally, after 2 months of researches (as for the princesses’ researches, I only show you the tip of the iceberg : I have tons of pages) , Benedicte’s design of Prax was unanimous \o/. Mephisto still wasn’t okay for the producers :-( and they were totally unable to give us a vision of what they expect. We only knew it wasnt ok. again. damn…
(picture 5) So it was now the turn to Jean-Louis Vandestoc, Lolirock’s director, to draw his vision to try to break the deadlock. If Prax was awesome with butterfly, Jean-Louis wanted Mephisto to have snake symbol, and he brought the idea of a half-hidden face.
